Frequently asked questions about cleaning
What are the benefits of having my carpet or
furniture professionally cleaned rather than doinig it
myself?
You can clean carpets and upholstery yourself but you cannot rent
equipment that works as well as professional equipment.  Doing it yourself will
make your carpet look clean, but it will only clean the top of the pile. Because
of this, your carpet will look dirty sooner than if it were professionally cleaned.
Before I started this company, I used to clean my own carpets with a Bissel
machine.  I cleaned them once a month and spent a fortune on the
chemicals.  Now that I have professional equipment, my cleanings are only
done twice a year.
I don't recommend cleaning your upholstery yourself.  There is a lot that can
go wrong if cleaned improperly.  The fabric can shrink, the colors can bleed,
your white & cream colored couch can turn brown, and you can even end up
growing mold inside your furniture.  It's much cheaper to have this done by a
professional.
Most importantly, having your carpet cleaned by a professional is cheaper. If
you rent a machine ($30 to $50 a day), you still have to buy shampoo ($10 to
$30) and defoamer ($5 to $10).  Add this up along with the several hours of
your weekend spent to do this and it will cost you $45 to $90. Also, the carpet
will take up to 24 hours to dry and look dirty gain in 30 days. If clean carpet
is important to you, but you end up doing it yourself, you'll spend 3 to 6 times
more in a 6 month period than if you had it all done professionally.
You really are better off saving the time, money, and chance of destroying
your carpet and furniture by having it all cleaned professionally.
How often should I have my carpet and upholstery
cleaned?
The major carpet mills and manufaturers all recommend professional, hot
water extraction
cleanings a minimum of every 18 months.  Even if the
carpet is rarely used, cleaning is necessary to remove ground in, microscopic
particles.
Think of your carpet as a filter.  All of the dust, dirt, pollen, and allergens
flying around in the air inside your home will become trapped in your carpet.
This is why carpet is healthier than hard floors. It helps keep these
contaminents out of the air, but it must be cleaned regularly, just like your
furnace filter.
Of course, the busier your home is, the more often the carpets need
cleaning. Our home has 2 children and 2 dogs.  We clean every 6 months.
Upholstery should be cleaned as often as it begins to look dirty (maybe
sooner). Your furniture actually gets more soiled because of our skin. The oils
from our bodies create a "glue" for soil to stick to, adhering dirt from our
clothes (and pets) to our furniture. Surprisingly, manufacturers do not
mention cleaning frequencies for their products.  This may be due to the fact
that upholstery can be damaged easily by cleaning with an improper
technique.
